Coming and Going on HBO Now in October 2017

Larry David and Jeff Garlin

Larry David, cable TV’s most hilariously insufferable neurotic, returns to HBO on October 1 with a new season of Curb Your Enthusiasm after a five-year hiatus. It kicks off a month that includes the second season of the Emmy-nominated comedy Tracey Ullman’s Show, original documentary Spielberg, debuting days after its premiere at the New York Film Festival, and John Wick: Chapter 2, the high octane action sequel starring Keanu Reeves as a retired hitman pulled back into the assassin underworld.

October of course brings the horror and M. Night Shyamalan’s Split makes its cable debut along with The Darkness with Kevin Bacon, Lights Out with Teresa Palmer, and The Purge: Election Year. For consenting adults there is the unrated version of Fifty Shades Darker but if that’s too decadent for you, HBO has the faith-based dramas The Resurrection of Gavin Stone and The Shack and, for kids, the animated Rock Dog.

Older films returning to HBO include the nautical drama Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World with Russell Crowe, the sprawling Australia with Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman, the comic book movies X-Men Origins: Wolverine with Hugh Jackman and Constantine with Keanu Reeves, and the original The Terminator.

Among the films leaving at the end of October are Indignation based on the Philip Roth novel, the alien invasion sequel Independence Day: Resurgence, westerns Unforgiven and Appaloosa, Steven Spielberg’s Minority Report, and Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing, Mo’ Better Blues, Crooklyn, and Clockers.
