Penny Dreadful is currently the most persuasive argument for me to get Showtime. The Gothic horror mystery set in Victorian London takes the premise that the characters and supernatural beings of 19th century horror literature—Victor Frankenstein (and his creature), Dracula, Dorian Gray— all exist in the real world. I saw the entire first series on disc last year and can’t wait for the second.
